Vivian G. Sanderson

Vivian G. Sanderson, 78, of 143 Maple St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Bennington, Vt., on May 15, 1926, daughter of Ralph and Abbie Irene Burgess Thurber, she was a 1944 graduate of the former Bennington High School. She was a 1947 graduate of the former Bishop Memorial Nursing School in Pittsfield. She had been in training for the Army Nurse Corps, but was never called upon for active duty. A registered nurse, Mrs. Sanderson had been employed as a school nurse at Kittredge Elementary School. Prior to that, she had worked at the former Pittsfield General Hospital. She was a member of First Congregational Church and of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed painting, shopping and square dancing. She and her husband, Norman A. Sanderson, were married Aug. 28, 1947. Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Dawn Frissell and Faith Scofield, both of Hinsdale, Gay Calo of Medfield and Hope Burgess of Lee; two sons, James Sanderson of Lanesboro and Norman T. Sanderson of Pittsfield; two brothers, Glen Thurber of Long Island, N.Y., and Richmond Thurber of Bennington, 14 grandchildren and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Vivian G. Sanderson, who died Dec. 19, 2004, will be conducted Thursday at 2 at First Congregational Church of Dalton by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Hinsdale. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Erin and Kate Frissell, Mary, Michelle, Joseph and James Colo, Erin and Sarah Burgess, Caleb and Kyle Scofield and Alaina, Kelsey and Cody Sanderson; a great-grandson, Austin Ferry; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Sanderson, and three sons-in-law, Peter Frissell, Joseph Calo and John Barrett, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Hinsdale in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
