Alan Russel Stickles

Alan Russel Stickles, 55, of Long Pond Road died Saturday at home after a long illness. Born in Presque Isle, Maine, on Feb. 23, 1949, son of Richard and Florence Jardine Stickles, he moved to Great Barrington in 1951 and was a 1968 graduate of the former Searles High School. He also graduated from Berkshire Community College with an associatedegree in environmental science. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged in 1970. A self-employed handyman, Mr. Stickles worked at various jobs, including on local farms. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Great Barrington Fish and Game Club, the National Rifle Association and James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348. He and his wife, the former Vicky Dean, were married April 17, 1993, in Great Barrington. Besides his wife, he leaves three sisters, Marie Decker of North Adams, Christine Moulton of Gilbert, Ariz., and Ida Stickles of Indian Orchard. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Alan Russel Stickles, who died Dec. 25, 2003, will be tomorrow, Dec. 28, at 1 at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tomorrow from 11 until the time of the service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Great Barrington Fish and Game Club through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Alan was described as a people person.
