Gertrude Pearl Voghel Persons

Gertrude Pearl Voghel Persons, 88, of 2834 South West Pontiac Place, Stuart, Fla., formerly of Cheshire, died Saturday evening at Martin Memorial Hospital South in Stuart after a short illness. Born in Cheshire on Feb. 25, 1916, daughter of Gordon N. and Minnie Corwell Bliss, she was educated in Cheshire schools and was a 1934 graduate of the former Adams High School. She had resided on Lanesboro Road and in Diamond Point, N.Y., before moving to Stuart. Mrs. Persons had been employed as manager of the field compensation department of Berkshire Life Insurance Co. in Pittsfield for 23 years, retiring in 1975. Earlier, she had operated a boarding home for children in Cheshire for 12 years. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Cheshire and a member of Tropical Farms Baptist Church in Stuart. Her first husband, Bertram Voghel, whom she married June 30, 1934, in Cheshire, died in 1959. Her husband, Frank Burt Persons, whom she married Nov. 18, 1961, died April 13, 1987. She leaves two daughters, Joan Voghel St. John of Stuart, with whom she resided, and Lorraine Voghel Yavaniski of Hoosick, N.Y.; three stepsons, Ronald Persons of North Carolina, Roger Persons of the state of Florida and Robert A. Persons of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Gertrude Persons will be Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 11 at Tropical Farms Baptist Church, 1555 W. Kanner Highway, Stuart, Fla. Burial will be in the family plot in Cheshire Cemetery in the spring. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of local arrangements. There will be no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. Memorial donations are suggested for Tropical Farms Baptist Church through the funeral home. Survivors also include sons-in-law, Charles St. John of Stuart and Robert Yavaniski of Hoosick; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Bliss, in 1987.
