Alida Elizabeth Tidball

Alida Elizabeth Tidball, 84, of Elmcourt died Wednesday evening at Fairview Commons nursing home in Great Barrington. Born in Trumbull, Conn., on Nov. 2, 1920, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Swettenham Cairns, she moved to Great Barrington at the age of 6 and graduated from the former Searles High School in 1938. She also graduated from Simmons College in Boston, where she majored in business. Mrs. Tidball was employed by her father at GB&S Ranch. She also worked as a secretary for the former Great Barrington School for Girls at Searles Castle, and for Wheeler & Taylor Insurance Co. She enjoyed painting with watercolors, playing golf and the piano, and yachting Her husband, Zan L. Tidball, whom she married June 7, 1947, died Aug. 17, 1991. She leaves a brother, Dana Henry Cairns of Ellington, N.Y. Her daughter, Linda D. Tidball, died Oct. 28, 1981. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Alida Cairns Tidball will be conducted tomorrow, Dec. 29, 2004, at 1 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Commons Activities Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
