Ronald Barrett

Ronald Barrett, 72, of 87 Joseph Drive died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 23, 1932, son of Francis and Frances Stamm Barrett, he attended schools in Scarsdale, N.Y., and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1950. He moved to Pittsfield in 1977 from Waterford, Conn. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served 30 years with the Submarine Service and was discharged as a chief petty officer. Mr. Barrett was employed by GE in the naval ordnance department from 1977 until retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and reading, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He and his wife, the former Dorothy A. Blackie, were married Aug. 31, 1957, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Nancy J. Gallagher of Pittsburgh, Patricia A. Jubell of Honolulu, Barbara L. LaPierre of Pittsfield and Jennifer L. LaFond of Norfolk; a brother, Geoffrey Barrett of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a sister, Virginia Picchi of Hampton, Va., and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ronald Barrett, who died Dec. 30, 2004, will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 8:30 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Jan. 3, from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Survivors include eight grandchildren, John, Maeve, Keegan and Brenna Gallagher, Alexandra Jubell, Nichole and Ryan LaPierre, and Olivia LaFond, and four sons-in-law, William Gallagher, Peter Jubell, Michael LaPierre and John LaFond.
