Mildred May Rivers

Mildred May Rivers, 93, formerly of 55 Franklin St., died yesterday at North Adams Commons, where she had resided since October 2003. Born in North Adams on Feb. 7, 1911, daughter of Edward J. Curry and Anna Gilbert Curry Morin, she graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in 1928. Mrs. Rivers was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 33 years, retiring in 1976. Before that, she was a telephone operator at the former New England Telephone Co. for 11 years. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of its Rosary Society, and a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century Club and the Sprague Retirees. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. Her husband, William Joseph Rivers, whom she married Aug. 10, 1931, in St. Francis' Church, died July 21, 1977. She leaves a daughter, Joan Ann Bulshey of North Adams; a sister, Rose Coyne of North Adams; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mildred Rivers, who died Jan. 1, 2005, will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Jan. 3, from 3 to 6. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for Elder Services or the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home. Survivors include a son-in-law, Thomas J. Bulshey; three grandchildren, Mark Bulshey, Lisa Peloquin and her husband, Ronald Peloquin, and Dawn Brady and her husband, Eugene Brady; four great-grandchildren, Erica Bulshey, Danielle Bulshey, Nicole Brady and Casey Hatt Peloquin, and a brother-in-law, retired North Adams firefighter Francis Rivers.
