Robert Stephen Walshaw

Robert Stephen Walshaw, 62, of 123 Davis St., Greenfield, formerly of North Adams, died Friday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield after a brief illness. Born in North Adams on Nov. 7, 1942, son of Percival Robert Walshaw and Josephine Gattuso Walshaw Davis, his father died when he was 2, and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Percy Davis. He was a 1961 honors graduate of Drury High School. Mr. Walshaw became disabled at a young age and had resided in Greenfield for 30 years. While in North Adams, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed music, reading, skiing, biking and the outdoors. He leaves a sister, Rosemary Sarkis of North Adams and his longtime companion, Verle Macleod. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for Robert S. Walshaw will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 11 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Massachusetts Avenue, North Adams, by the Rev. Peter Pierson, rector. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Carson Center in Greenfield through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, 01247. Survivors include his brother-in-law, Anthony Sarkis of North Adams; his niece, Kristy Thomas and her husband, Robert Thomas, of North Adams; his nephew, Anthony Sarkis Jr. of North Adams, and his grandnephew, Benjamin Thomas of North Adams. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Walshaw of Ocala, Fla.
