Frederick Arthur Schneider

Frederick Arthur Schneider, 67, of Boice Road died Saturday at home after a long illness. Born in Great Barrington on March 1, 1937, son of Clinton T. and Sophie McDermott Schneider, he attended the former Searles High School and received his general equivalency diploma from Monument Mountain Regional High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1955 and was discharged as a corporal in 1959. Mr. Schneider was employed by Berkshire Children's Community, now Berkshire Meadows, in Great Barrington, retiring in 1991. He attended First Congregational Church in Great Barrington and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing, and traveling. He and his wife, the former Judith May Foote, were married in 1962 in Biloxi, Miss. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Lisa St. Pierre of Egremont, Wendy O'Connor of Sheffield and Heidi Delaney of Little Falls, N.Y.; two brothers, John Schneider of the state of Washington and Robert Schneider of Phoenix; a sister, Carol Rodgers of Kinsman, Ohio, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family invites everyone to join them for the funeral for Frederick A. Schneider on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 1:30 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. There will be no calling hours. He also leaves his sons-in-law, Lord St. Pierre, Denis O'Connor Jr. and Paul Delaney, and seven grandchildren, Adam, Brenna and Selena St. Pierre, Mandy and Aly O'Connor, Natalie Wohlfert and Casey Delaney. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Egremont Fire Department or to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
