Joseph Stanley Les

Joseph Stanley Les, 94, formerly of 17 Pleasant St., died Friday evening at Springside of Pittsfield, where he had resided for four years. Born in Adams on Nov. 9, 1910, son of Augustine and Katherine Piekos Les, he attended schools there. He had lived in Cheshire for several years before returning to Adams. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1939 and served as an aircraft mechanic in the Pacific theater until his discharge as a master sergeant in 1945. Mr. Les owned and operated the former Joe's Alignment Service on Porter Street in North Adams for 27 years, retiring in 1977. Earlier, he had worked for the former Davenport and Guettler Auto Body Shop, also in North Adams. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a former chairman of the Adams Housing Authority. He enjoyed fishing, reading, growing roses and building snowmobiles. His wife, the former Minnie Czubryt, whom he married Aug. 22, 1949, died in 1976. He leaves a daughter, Jane Pansecchi of Pittsfield; a son, John Les of Becket, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph Les, who died Jan. 7, 2005, will be Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will be in the spring in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. He leaves four grandchildren, Brenda Wells and Susan Nagelschmidt, both of Pittsfield, and Ashley and Joseph Les of Becket; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Conklin, Ryan Nagelschmidt, and Dominique and Kimberley Wells, all of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Les in 1994; and a sister, Mary Starsiak in 1997.
