Edward DunDonald Foote Jr.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward DunDonald Foote Jr., 79, of 380 Barbour St. died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at home after four months of failing health. He was known for many years as Edward D. Frappier Jr. Born in North Adams on Sept. 23, 1925, son of Edward D. Frappier Sr. and Mildred Hambelton Frappier, he was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. While in high school, he was employed by the former Sparrows Specialty Co. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as a radar operator with the rank of corporal at several air force bases until his honorable discharge on July 11, 1946. Mr. Foote returned to North Adams and studied pharmacy for a year before enrolling in GE's drafting apprenticeship course. He became a junior draftsman and, later, a senior designer before being promoted to drafting supervisor in the ordnance division. He retired in 1985 with more than 38 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He was a sports fan and, in his younger years, a member of the former St. Anthony Crusaders semiprofessional football team of North Adams. His wife, the former Claire June Robert, whom he married March 24, 1947, died Nov. 1, 1981. He leaves a daughter, Paula A. Geary of Stephentown, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Foote Righi of Windsor, Vt.; two brothers, Peter Foote and David Foote, both of North Adams; two grandchildren, Peter Ferris and Jared Geary; two great-grandchildren, Kathleen Mae Ferris and Abigail Ferris, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. His son, Spc. 4 Peter W. Foote, died Jan. 30, 1968, while serving as a paratrooper in Vietnam. He also was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Frappier and Wellesley Frappier. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Foote will be Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Peter W. Foote Memorial Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
