Annie Witto

Annie Witto, 102, of 323 Jepson Road died Thursday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams, Mass., on Jan. 19, 1903, the daughter of Charles and Matilda Stevens Fountain, she attended elementary schools there. She had been a resident of the Clarksburg, Mass., and Stamford area for 85 years. Mrs. Witto and her former husband owned and operated the former Witto's Dairy Bar and Annie's Tea Room during the late 1920s and 1930s. She later worked for the former Strong-Hewat Woolen Mill in Clarksburg for many years, retiring when the mill closed in the 1960s. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. She enjoyed walking. She leaves her daughter-in-law, Agnes "Nan" Witto, with whom she made her home; a sister, Agnes Stalker of Concord, Mass., three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Her son, Arnold Roy Witto, died Oct. 30, 1980, and her daughter, Patricia Ann Lefave, died May 30, 1992. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Eucharistic Funeral Mass for Annie Witto, who died Jan. 20, 2005, will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 10 in St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Edward A. King, rector. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., 01247. She leaves three grandchildren, Heather-Lynn Tietgens and her husband, John C. Jr., of Stamford, Cathy-Ann Chapman of Plainfield, Mass., and Bonnie Jo Choquette of Clarksburg; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica Ann Tietgens, John C. Tietgens III, Jacob A. Tietgens, Jillian E. Tietgens, Elizabeth Ann Chapman, Katelynn Witto Chapman, Michael J. Choquette, Angela Choquette, David Choquette and Christopher Sunn. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
