Helen O'Brien

Helen O'Brien, 88, of 3655 West Lake Mary Blvd., Lake Mary, Fla., formerly of North Adams, died early Monday morning at South Seminole Community Hospital in Longwood, Fla., where she was admitted Jan. 12. Born in Utica, N.Y., on May 28, 1916, daughter of Richard E. and Mary Griffiths Newman, she graduated from the Utica Free Academy in 1935. She moved to North Adams in 1953 and to Florida in 1992. She also had been a longtime resident of Pines Lodge Park in Williamstown. Mrs. O'Brien was employed by Hoosac Savings Bank as a teller for 12 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles. Her husband, Arthur James O'Brien, whom she married March 1953, died Jan. 12, 1973. She leaves a daughter, Carolyn A. Sacco of Lake Mary, two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal services for Helen Newman O'Brien, who died Jan. 24, 2005, will be conducted Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 at the family lot in Southview Cemetery by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include a son-in-law, Ronald R. Sacco; two granddaughters and their spouses, Julieanne and Robert Butcher and Catherine and Dean Poplaski, and five great-grandchildren, Robert "RJ" Butcher III and Brett Butcher, and Nicholas, Justin and Caitlyn Poplaski. Her sister and brother, Richard and Alice Newman, are deceased.
