John Matthew Boltrom

John Matthew Boltrom, 89, of 1715 Hewins St., Ashley Falls, died Sunday at home following an illness. Born in Danbury, Conn., on May 28, 1915, daughter of Charles and Mary Chumcha Boltrom, he was educated there. He had resided in Ashley Falls since 1987. A machinist and mechanic, Mr. Boltrom owned and operated the Candlewood Valley Auto Body Shop in New Milford, Conn., from 1962 until retiring in 1980. Earlier, he had worked at Park Battery Garage in New Milford before and after World War II. During World War II, he was a supervisor for Waterbury (Conn.) Tool Co., where he oversaw the manufacturing of parts for many of the naval warships. While in Ashley Falls, he acted as a consultant to his son, John R. Boltrom, in the restoration of antique cars. An avid flower and vegetable gardener, he also was an accomplished artist, working in both drawings and paintings. He and his wife, the former Irene H. Houdimatch, were married May 26, 1945. Besides his wife and son, of Ashley Falls, he leaves a daughter, Jean Christine McMackon of Seattle; a brother, Francis Boltrom of Monroe, Maine; four sisters, Cecelia Anderson of New Milford, Madeline Gale of Bridgewater, Conn., Mary Anne Haywood of Pittsford, N.Y., and Alice Pollard of San Rafael, Calif., and a grandson. Another son, Robert Matthew Boltrom, died in 1988. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for John Matthew Boltrom, who died Jan. 30, 2005, will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
