Charles Francis "Texaco Charlie" Casey

Charles Francis "Texaco Charlie" Casey, 97, of 4 Lake Ave. died Sunday at home. Born in East Canaan, Conn., on Sept. 10, 1907, son of Martin and Mary Kane Casey, he graduated from high school there. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Casey owned and operated Casey's Garage on South Main Street from 1945 until 1979. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. He was a charter member of the James A. Modolo VFW Post 834 and a member of American Legion Post 127. A Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed harness racing and gardening. His wife, the former Hazel L. Perkins, whom he married Feb. 19, 1931, died July 29, 1991. He leaves a daughter, Barbara Ann Casey of Great Barrington, and his longtime companion and caregiver, Rita Valliere. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The military funeral for Charles F. Casey, who died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, will be Thursday, Feb. 10, at 8:30 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 in St. Peter's Church by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends tomorrow, Feb. 9, from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He also leaves Rita's two daughters, Desiree and Renee, and a longtime friend, Scott Rockefeller.
