Dr. Anthony Lee Robbins

Dr. Anthony Lee Robbins, 69, of 2 Pumpkin Hollow Road, North Egremont, died Tuesday at home after a long illness. He had been a longtime resident of the Berkshires, both in Alford and Egremont. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 27, 1935, son of Harry and Matilda Bender Robbins, he graduated from Madison High School in Brooklyn. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1957 and a master's degree in microbiology in 1958 from Long Island University. He received a certificate in Italian language from the University of Perugia in Italy. He graduated from the University of Bologna in 1963 as a medical doctor. Upon completion of his internship at the Long Island College Hospital, he did his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. A Vietnam War veteran, he served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy from 1968 to 1970. He had a private practice in Charleston, S.C., doing neurology, psychiatry, and neuropsychiatry. After his first illness in 1976, he did a residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in radiology and neuroradiology. He was a contributor to numerous professional medical journals and books. He was listed in "Who's Who in the East" as well as "Men of Achievement." He enjoyed boats, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He and his wife, the former Ellen Payes, were married July 26, 1981, in Langhorn, Pa. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Philipe Robbins of New Paltz, N.Y.; four daughters, Dr. Rebecca Robbins of Buddlake, N.J., Nadine Robbins Zadro of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Leah Robbins of Columbia, S.C., and Jessica Robbins of Great Barrington; two brothers, Dr. John Robbins of Washington, D.C., and Marc Robbins of New York City, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Dr. Anthony Lee Robbins will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at 3 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. The funeral services will be conducted by Rabbi Deborah Zecher of the Hevreh of South Berkshire Synagogue. Burial will follow at the family plot in Hillside Cemetery, North Egremont. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either HospiceCare of the Berkshires, or the Neuropathy Association Inc. in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He leaves four grandchildren, Harry, Jordan, Zachariah and Wyatt, who knew him affectionately as " Papa Tony."
