Shirley B. Schutzmann

Shirley B. Schutzmann, 87, of 487 Old Stockbridge Road died Tuesday at home after a long illness. Born in Detroit on Nov. 25, 1917, daughter of Benjamin and Celia Berlin, she graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, and attended Columbia University. She also lived in California and Florida before moving to the Berkshires in 1991. Mrs. Schutzmann worked as an executive secretary in Sausalito, Calif. She retired in 1970. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, Her husband, Loyd Schutzmann, died in 1993. She leaves a daughter, Paula Schutzmann of Great Barrington, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Harold Schutzmann, died in Germany in 2002. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no service for Shirley B. Schutzmann, who died Feb. 15, 2005. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lee Regional Visiting Nurse Association and HospiceCare of the Berkshires. ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Schutzmann was a thoughtful, caring person who championed many social causes during her lifetime. She is survived by her four grandchildren, Sarah Harvey Cornelsen of Denver, Catherine Harvey Dill of Glastonbury, Conn., and Oliver and Henry Schutzmann of Frankfurt, Germany.
