Miriam Adaline Carson

Miriam Adaline Carson, 87, of 810 Gage St., Bennington, Vt., died Wednesday evening at Southern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, where she was admitted this past Sunday. A resident of 60 Crossroad St. for 60 years, she had lived in Bennington for the past two years. Born in Springfield, S.C., on March 4, 1917, daughter of Hampton and Lura Joyner Williams, the family moved to Andalusia, Ala., in 1921, where she graduated from Andalusia High School in 1935. She moved to Stamford, Vt., in 1937 and attended the former Bliss Business College in North Adams. Mrs. Carson was last employed as a secretary to the president of the former North Adams State College, now MCLA, for 16 years, retiring in 1980. Earlier she had worked at the former Dutch Hill Ski area in Heartwellville, Vt., for several winters. She was a member of the Stamford Community Church. She was also a member of the Briggsville Women's Club, Stamford Ladies Golf League and the Naomi Chapter 17, Order of Eastern Star. Her husband, William W. Carson, whom she married June 1937, died May 18, 1968. She leaves two sons, David W. "Kit" Carson of Seabrook, N.H., and William W. Carson Jr. of Sammamish, Wash., three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Miriam Carson will be Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at 4 in the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams. William R. Wilson, pastor of the Stamford (Vt.) Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either the Clarksburg Public Library or the Stamford Community Church through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. She leaves three grandchildren, Brooke Carson, Kit Will Carson and Daniel W. Carson, and nine great-grandchildren, Samantha Lampman, Ariana Sausville, Zebadiah LeRay, Carson Woods, Careigh Woods, Haley Carson, Tristan Carson, Phoebe Carson and Zachary Sausville. The last of her immediate family, she was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
