James Marshall Brighenti

James Marshall Brighenti, 70, of 320 McKinley Road, Portsmouth, N.H., died Wednesday at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief period of failing health. Born in Lee on Nov. 13, 1934, son of Marshall and Lena Cadenelli Brighenti, he was a 1952 graduate of Lee High School. He also attended Brown University and New Hampshire College. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, serving in North Africa, Libya, Morocco, Southeast Asia and the United States. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Brighenti was employed as an auditor by the federal government at Pease Air Force Base and Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo. He was a resident of the Portsmouth area for the past 35 years. He was a longtime communicant, volunteer, and usher of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Air Force Association. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, North American Hunting Club, Piscataqua Rifle and Revolver Club, Sons of Italy, and the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree for Council 140. He enjoyed volunteering for AARP and IRS, for whom he went to nursing homes to do taxes for shut-ins. He leaves his wife, the former Sandra Anne Davis; three sons, James Brighenti Jr. of Kodiak, Alaska, Peter Brighenti of Pensacola, Fla., and Steven Brighenti of Kansas, Mo.; three daughters, Debra Prindeville of Portsmouth, Cynthia Nipple of Augusta, Ga., and Jane Isabelle of Newport News, Va.; a brother, William Brighenti of Lee; two sisters, Norma Tokoly of Lee and Rena Gleason of Worcester, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- James Marshall Brighenti, 70, of Portsmouth, N.H., died March 2, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 7, at 10 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the FARRELL FUNERAL HOME, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family, flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, or to St. Patrick's School, 125 Austin St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
