Melvin Davenport "Doc" Crosier

Melvin Davenport "Doc" Crosier, 90, of 74 Mohawk Trail died Sunday at North Adams Commons. He was a former member of the Finance Committee and served on the Building and School Building committees. Born in Colrain on May 4, 1914, son of Robin E. and Cora Davenport Crosier, he attended schools there. Mr. Crosier was a self-employed welder for more than 50 years. He also worked at C.H. Willey Co. in Charlemont for 10 years and at Sherman Blacksmith Shop in North Adams. He was a member of Blackinton Union Church in North Adams and of Unity Lodge of Masons in Jacksonville, Vt. His wife, the former Minnie May Gifford, whom he married April 25, 1937, died Feb. 9, 1993. He leaves a daughter, Patricia Foster Cass of Plymouth, N.H.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, Charles Chilson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for Melvin Davenport "Doc" Crosier, who died March 6, 2005, will be in the spring at the family plot in Sadawga Cemetery in Wilmington, Vt. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Survivors include five grandchildren, Sally Foster, Norman Foster, Wendy Smith, Linda Rice and Kathy Gregory; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Gregory, Benjamin Foster, Sarah Foster and Alexandra Smith, and a stepdaughter-in-law, Grace Chilson. He was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Williams.
