Edward L. Manley Jr.

Edward L. Manley Jr., 79, of 12 Grove Ave., died at home on Tuesday. Born in Springfield on Nov. 2, 1925, son of Edward L. Manley Sr. and Harriett Gelinas Manley, he attended schools there He came to Pittsfield in 1964. A Coast Guard veteran, he sailed throughout the European theater, Africa, the Middle East and Asia from 1943 to 1946, on the USS Wakefield Troop Transport ship. On June 6, 1944, the ship took part in D-Day. Mr. Manley was employed as a manager for 20 years by General Electric in the former power transformer department, where he received several recognition awards for outstanding contributions to the company. He retired in 1986. Previously, he was a personnel and manufacturing supervisor at the former Greylock Plastics until 1966. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He and his wife of 56 years, the former Marilyn Grady, were married July, 12, 1947. She died May 27, 2004. He leaves two daughters, Gail Senger and Patricia Martin, both of Pittsfield; a son, Edward L. Manley III. of Monson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Edward Manley Jr., 79, was called safely home on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, and is now with his best friend and beloved wife of 56 years, Marilyn. In honoring Mr. Manley's wishes, all services will be private with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave. Ed leaves his loving grandchildren, Kim McCann, Frank S. Martin III., Steve Senger, Angela Racine, Malinda Manley, Edward "Teddy" Manley, Devin Shea and Nolan Manley, and his three great-grandchildren, Brianna McCann and Brett and Chase Racine. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Manley and sons-in-law, Frank "Chico" Martin and Larry Shea.
