Ethel "June" Kauppi

Ethel "June" Kauppi, 90, a longtime resident of North Pownal Road in Pownal Center, died yesterday morning at home after a short illness. Born in Williamstown, Mass., on June 1, 1914, daughter of George and Maude Monte Rounds, she was a graduate of the former Williamstown High School. Mrs. Kauppi was employed by the Red Door Inn in Pownal, retiring as head of housekeeping. She was a member of Pownal Community Church, the Pownal Senior Center and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Pownal Center Fire Department. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and baking. Her husband, Sanfri Kauppi, whom she married Dec. 25, 1933, in South Williamstown, died in 1996. She leaves a son, Steven Kauppi of Pownal Center; a daughter, Sylvia Hill of Bennington; a brother, Paul Rounds of Claremont, Okla.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by another daughter, Martha Kauppi. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 10 at Southlawn Cemetery in Williamstown by the Rev. Eugene Kemp, pastor of Pownal Community Church. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or the Pownal Rescue Squad, both through GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267. She leaves her daughter-in-law, Faye; son-in-law, Aldis; grandchildren, Angie Rawlings and her husband, Rod, Terry Hill and his wife, Wanda, and Pam Goodhue and her husband, Kevin, and her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Rounds. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Daniel, Sam, Earl and Dodd Rounds.
