Robert Anthony O'Neill

Robert Anthony O'Neill, 79, of 35 North St. died Wednesday at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown. Born in North Adams on Feb. 5, 1926, son of Thomas and Hazel Estes O'Neill, he attended schools there, including Drury High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company L 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, as a technician, and was decorated for his service. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1946, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and served until 1953. Mr. O'Neill was last employed as a custodian for the City of North Adams School System from 1963 to 1987. He had also worked for GE in North Adams, and was a licensed auto mechanic for several garages in North Adams. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion in North Adams. He was an accomplished carpenter and an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His wife, the former Bernadette Agnes Crowley, whom he married on Oct. 28, 1950, in St. Francis' Church, died Aug. 8, 2004. He leaves three daughters, Susan M. Gaudreau and Sandra Jean Bourdon, both of North Adams, and Laurie A. Finck of Shelburne Falls; a son, Marc J. O'Neill of Adams; three sisters, Mae "Betty" Fulginiti and Bernice Cole, both of North Adams, and Florence "Polly" Dalmaso of Hancock; three brothers, Bernard "Jack" O'Neill and Richard "Mickey" O'Neill, both of North Adams, and Bruce O'Neill of the state of Florida, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Robert Anthony O'Neill will take place Tuesday at 10:15 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for Elder Services of Berkshire County through the funeral home. Survivors include, Shannon Toye, Jennifer Betti, Kevin Toye, Ryley Gaudreau, Seth Gaudreau, Christopher Bourdon, Ryan Bourdon, R. Kyle O'Neill, Peter Finck and Matthew Finck and seven great-grandchildren, Andrea Bourdon, Deliah Shulman, Kyley Jane Toye, Maria Bourdon, Julia Bourdon, McKenna Payton Betti and Kevin Robert Toye Jr. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Morand,i and five brothers, Francis, Thomas, Albert, Louis and Raymond O'Neill.
