Susan Thomas

Susan Thomas, 76, formerly of Becket, died Sunday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Born July 10, 1928, in Locust Valley, N.Y., daughter of Skeffington and Susan Scott Norton, she attended Green Vale School in Glen Head, N.Y., and Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn. She held a master's degree in child development from Long Island University. Mrs. Thomas was a kindergarten teacher for many years at Green Vale School. She moved to Becket full time in the 1990s with her late husband, James A. Thomas Jr., who died in March 2000. She leaves three sons, William H. Stewart of Washington D.C., Douglas N. Stewart of Louisville, Co., and Skeffington N. Thomas of Bridgeton, N.J.; two daughters, Penelope Stewart Eagan of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Augusta Read Thomas of Becket and Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Skeffington S. Norton III of Devon, Pa.; three stepdaughters, Cameron Thomas Siesfeld of Lexington, Eleanor L. Thomas of Becket and New York, N.Y., and Dorothy Thomas Hertz of New York, N.Y.; two stepsons, R. Mac Thomas of Locust Valley, N.Y., and James A. Thomas III of New York, N.Y.; and 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Susan Thomas, who died March 20, 2005, was laid to rest in Locust Valley Cemetery in Long Island on Monday, March 21, 2005. A memorial service will be held April 9, at 2 at Trinity Church, 88 Walker St., Lenox.
