Homer Henry Shays

Homer Henry Shays, 83, of 13 Millard Ave. died Monday at home. Born in North Adams on Feb. 6, 1922, son of Henry E. and Edna M. Phelps Shays, he attended schools there, including Drury High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Shays was employed as an auto mechanic at the former Scarafoni Ford Inc. in North Adams, retiring in 1992. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in North Adams. He enjoyed bowling. His wife, the former Elizabeth A. Sweeney, whom he married Oct. 7, 1940, died April 23, 1999. He leaves a son, Albert Shays of Elgin, Okla., and two grandchildren. A daughter, Sheralyn Gregory, died Oct. 26, 2003. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside funeral services and burial for Homer H. Shays, who died Monday, March 28, 2005, will take place in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests those who wish may make memorial donations to First United Methodist Church through AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves a grandson, Kevin Shays of Chula Vista, Calif., and a granddaughter, Tammy Gregory of North Adams.
