Clifford E. Dallmeyer Sr.

Clifford E. Dallmeyer Sr., 94, of Church Street died at Berkshire Medical Center on Thursday. Born in Pittsfield on March 18, 1911, son of John H. and Harriet Hall Dallmeyer, he attended Pittsfield schools. Mr. Dallmeyer was employed at the Litchmann-Widen Tannery, the Berkshire Button Shop, the Elmvale Worsted Mill. He retired in 1972, after 31 years of service as chief engineer of the steam powerhouses at General Electric Co. During World War II he served the town of Lanesboro as water superintendent and was a lifemember of the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cheshire. In his spare time he enjoyed building clocks and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He played semi-pro baseball in the Shire-City league, and in his early days, was a boxer in Valatie, N.Y. Mr. Dallmeyer was a former member of the Crescent Pittsfield Lodge of Masons AF & AM for more than 40 years. He was a 32nd-degree mason and a member of the York Rite Bodies. He was married on March 20, 1934, to the former Winifred Schurman Smith, who died Sept. 21, 1989. He leaves two sons, Clifford E. Dallmeyer Jr. of Chelmsford and Stephen P. Dallmeyer of Adams; a daughter, Margaret H. Munson of Woodlands, Texas; three sisters, Helen Cheyne, Harriet Boyington and Phyliss Chapman all of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A son, John E. Dallmeyer of Pittsfield, predeceased him. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5, at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. The Crescent Pittsfield Lodge of Masons will follow with a Masonic memorial service at 7. Among survivors are his daughters-in-law, Margo Dallmeyer of Chelmsford, Kathleen Dallmeyer of Adams and Elizabeth Dallmeyer of Pittsfield, and his son-in-law, Gordon Munson of Woodlands, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home at 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
