Ruth Gale

Ruth Gale, 92, of 75 Commercial St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Springfield on Sept. 12, 1912, daughter of Roy E. and Winifred Helen Wilder Crofton, she attended schools in Monson and was a 1929 graduate of Monson High School. She also attended the nursing course at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. She moved to Adams in 1989. Mrs. Gale was employed as a senior nurses' aide at Wing Memorial for many years, retiring in 1974. She also operated the former Gale News Store with her husband, Reginald Clifford Gale, and sister-in-law. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the hospital for several years and was presented its Volunteer of the Year Award. She also was a volunteer at NARH. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in North Adams and a former member of the Good Cheer Rebekah Lodge in Palmer. Her husband, whom she married May 28, 1934, died in August 1984. She leaves a son, Richard Gale of Queensbury, N.Y.; a daughter, Carolyn Marcil of Adams; a sister, Barbara LePage of Boynton Beach, Fla., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services and burial for Ruth Gale, who died April 5, 2005, will be at a date to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church through TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. She leaves three grandchildren, Robert Gale, Richard C. Gale and Darryl Ely. She was predeceased by another sister, Helen Brown.
