Charles A. Tucker

Charles A. Tucker, 74, of 79 Middlefield Road died yesterday at home after a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield on July 14, 1930, son of Charles A. and Grace Leslie Tucker, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also had lived in Florida before returning to Pittsfield in the late 1990s. He served in the Army during the Korean War. A retired automotive mechanic, Mr. Tucker worked at Price Chopper part time. He had been employed in automobile body repair at several local body shops, including Pete's Motor Group, Byron's Auto Body and Lindsey Chevrolet. He retired from Florida Atlantic University as a mechanic in 1997. He was a member of Unity Lodge of Masons in Dalton, a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite, a past commander and member of Dalton VFW Post 9565 and a member of Dalton American Legion Post 155. His first wife, the former Anne Barbour, died March 24, 1983. He and his wife, the former Ida M. Barnum, were married in February 1990. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Laurie Boulais of Pittsfield, Jane Lusser of Dalton and Sherry Street of Middlefield; a son, Scott Tucker Sr. of Hinsdale; three stepdaughters, Debra Camel of Dalton, Suzanne Workman of Pittsfield and Sharron Burpy of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, John Tucker of Pittsfield and James Tucker of Dalton, 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Charles A. Tucker, who died April 6, 2005, will be conducted Saturday at 10 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of Dalton Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. A Masonic funeral service will be held at 7, following the calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners' Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly E. Nelson.
