Janice "Sis" Curtin

Janice "Sis" Curtin, 52, of 155 Main Road died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She was a former town secretary and clerk. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 1, 1952, daughter of Joseph P. Whalen and the late Marion Hines Whalen, she was educated in Tyringham schools and was a 1970 graduate of Lee High School. At the time of her death, Mrs. Curtin was employed by the Lee Public Schools as a cafeteria worker. She was an active member of Tyringham Union Church, and a member of the Tyringham Ridge Runners snowmobile club and the Colonial Carriage Society. She enjoyed horseback riding and owned five horses. She also had been a justice of the peace. She and her husband, John N. Curtin, were married Sept. 4, 1971. Besides her husband and father, of Tyringham, she leaves two sons, Michael D. Curtin and Mark J. Curtin, both of Tyringham; a daughter, Lori A. Curtin of Tyringham; two brothers, Dennis E. Whalen of Tyringham and Kenneth C. Whalen of Manchester, N.H., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Janice "Sis" Curtin, who died April 16, 2005, will be conducted Wednesday, April 20, at 10 at Tyringham Union Church by the Rev. Janet McKinstry, pastor. Burial will follow in Tyringham Cemetery. Calling hours at KELLY FUNERAL HOME will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Ambulance Squad or to the Lee Little League, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Sis leaves her beloved grandchildren, Madison and Colby Curtin, with whom she participated in all of their activities; her daughter-in-law, Pam, and many other family members.
