Jeannot Louisa Heyman

Jeannot Louisa Heyman, 72, of 101 Egremont Plain Road died Monday at the home of her daughter, Martha Heyman of Cochranville, Pa. Born in Great Barrington on Aug. 11, 1932, daughter of George and Rachel Smith Brothers, she was a graduate of the former Searles High School. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1954. Mrs. Heyman taught first grade for many years at Sheffield Center and New Marlboro Central schools. An avid reader, she spent much of her retirement as a volunteer for the Literacy Network of Berkshire County. She was an active member of the Great Barrington Garden Club and the Thursday Morning Club. Besides her daughter, she leaves two sons, Bruce Heyman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Eric Heyman of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Jeannot Heyman will be conducted Saturday, April 23, at noon at Mahawie Cemetery in Great Barrington by the Rev. Earl Goth. Friends are invited to Jeannot's home for a celebration of her life at 1:30 Saturday. The family will receive friends Friday, April 22, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. She also leaves five grandchildren, Ray, Lana, Bruce, Victoria and William; a great-grandchild, Sydney Lou; a nephew, Christopher Bonak, and her cousins, Bonnie Smith and Lincoln Smith. She will be deeply missed by all, including her daughters-in-law, Diane and Jeralyn, and her son-in-law, Thanh. In celebration of Jeannot as a lifelong learner, avid reader and educator, the family suggests memorial donations to the Ramsdell Public Library in Housatonic through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
