Alfred Arthur Pierce

Alfred Arthur Pierce, 69, of 41 Main Road died Tuesday morning at home. Born in Savoy on Sept. 21, 1935, son of Marion L. Gardner Pierce of Adams and the late Oliver W. Pierce, he was raised in Savoy and attended schools in Adams. Mr. Pierce was employed as a truck driver for Roberts Bros. Lumber in Ashfield for several years, retiring in 2004. Earlier, he worked as a driver for the U.S. Postal Service and for Mullen Bros. Movers. He enjoyed antique tractors and was a member of the Western Massachusetts Tractor Pullers' Association. He and his wife, the former Rita Finnegan, were married Nov. 12, 1960. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a son, Scott Pierce of Cheshire; four daughters, Cheryl Lewis of Cheshire, Lisa Pierce Buffis of Lee, Kimberly Witek of North Adams and Elizabeth Ackley of Amsterdam, N.Y.; two sisters, Evelyn Rochelo and Myrtle Franceschini, both of Adams; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mr. Alfred A. Pierce will be held Saturday, April 23, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Thomas Aquinas' Church, Adams, by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Western Massachusetts Tractor Pullers' Association through the funeral home.
