Louis W. Sinico Jr.

Louis W. Sinico Jr., 56, of 18831 Parade Road, Hudson, Fla., a former longtime member of the Great Barrington Police Department, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Shannon A. Sinico of 135 Christian Hill Road, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Great Barrington on May 23, 1948, son of Louis W. Sinico Sr. of Great Barrington and the late Betty Race Sinico, he was a graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He was discharged as a corporal. Mr. Sinico retired from the Police Department in May 2003 with 32 years of service. He served as past president of the Great Barrington Police Association for several terms. He was a member of various men's bowling leagues and bowled two perfect 300 games at Cove Bowling Lanes. He also played golf and was a former member of the Wyantenuck and Egremont country clubs. He golfed in the men's league at Wyantenuck and the mixed couples league with his daughter at Egremont. He and his wife, the former Sheryl A. Wilson, were married Nov. 17, 2002, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Besides his wife, his father, and his daughter, he leaves a son, A. John Sinico of Copake, N.Y.; two sisters, Barbara J. Gage of Pittsfield and Ann Marie Barscz of Great Barrington; two stepdaughters, Michelle M. Harkins of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Jennifer A. Shim of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three grandchildren, and three step-granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mr. Louis W. Sinico Jr. will be conducted Wednesday, May 4, at 11 at First Congregational Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall. Burial will follow the funeral at the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery, Great Barrington. The family will receive friends tomorrow, May 3, from 4 to 7. At the family's request, donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Louie's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 22 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is handling arrangements. Louie was well known for his generosity to everyone as well as for his great wit and sense of humor. Survivors also include a loving son-in-law, Jason Blackwell; three cherished grandchildren, Shane Biernacki, Bryn S. Blackwell and Celina Sinico, all of Great Barrington; three step-granddaughters, Kori Blackwell of Great Barrington, Taryn Leckenbush and Taylor Harkins, both of Florida, and a nephew, Robbie Carter of Great Barrington. His mother, Betty A. Sinico, died March 21, 2004; a sister, Deborah A. Sinico, predeceased him in 1951.
