Dorothy Bell Baker Parmelee

Dorothy Bell Baker Parmelee, 91, formerly of 75 Commercial St., died yesterday morning at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she had resided since December 2000. Born in Pittsfield, Dec. 17, 1913, daughter of Orville and Lottie Fitzroy Harrington, she attended Pittsfield schools. A longtime resident of Adams, she also had lived in the town of Florida. Mrs. Parmelee was employed for five years in the housekeeping department at North Adams Regional Hospital, retiring in 1975. She earlier worked for 20 years at both the Brown and Beaver Street plants of the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Millhouses Association. She enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening. Her first husband, Alexander Baker, whom she married Aug. 1, 1931, died April 21, 1980. Her husband, James M. Parmelee, whom she married in 1987, died in 1988. She leaves a son, Attwood Baker of Elk City, Okla.; three daughters, Patricia Darling of North Adams, Linda LaFreniere of Kennebunk, Maine, and Freeport, N.Y., and Bonnie Willey of Apex, N.C.; four sisters, Agnes Bugbee of Savoy, Doris Marcil of Adams, Lenore Brooks of Pittsfield and Evelyn Teot of Irvine, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy B. Baker Parmelee, who died Saturday, April 30, 2005, will be Tuesday at 11 at First Baptist Church of Adams. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be held tomorrow, May 2, from 5 to 8 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams. Memorial donations may be made to the Women's Watchcare Fellowship of First Baptist Church of Adams or to the Sweet Brook Residents' Activity Fund in care of the funeral home. She was a loving and devoted homemaker and mother. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Margarette Baker, and sons-in-law Robert Darling and Gregory LaFreniere. She was predeceased by three brothers, Irving, Verne and Lyle Harrington, and two sisters, Nola Furman and Lois Fritz.
