Abraham N. Hoffman

Abraham N. Hoffman, 85, of Great Barrington Road and of Cranberry Lane in Easthampton died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Springfield on Aug. 26, 1919, son of Benjamin and Jennie Kaplan Hoffman, he graduated from Technical High School there. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Signal Corps in Europe from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Hoffman retired in 1987 from the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow, where he had worked as the plant engineer since 1971. Before that, he was a tool and die maker at various places in the Springfield area. He was an amateur photographer and enjoyed traveling. In later years, he became a bicyclist. He and his wife, the former Anna Danzig, were married Oct. 31, 1942, in Springfield. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Fredric Hoffman of Alameda, Calif.; two daughters, Elaine Hoffman of West Stockbridge and Jean Hoffman of West Hatfield; a sister, Nellie Brunswick of Laguna Woods, Calif., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Abraham N. Hoffman will be held at a time to be announced. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Anna Danzig, whom he married Oct. 31, 1942, in Springfield, and their children, Fredric Hoffman and his wife, Rose, of Alameda, Calif.; Elaine Hoffman of West Stockbridge, and Jean Hoffman and her husband, Jim Phaneuf, of West Hatfield; two grandchildren, David Morris Hoffman and Benjamin Hoffman, and a sister, Nellie Brunswick of Laguna Woods, Calif. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ida Hoffman and Esther Gottlieb. Memorial contributions may be made to ARISE, 94 Rifle St., Springfield, MA 01105-1632.
