Elizabeth Mary Yates

Elizabeth Mary Yates, 79, of 188 Main St., Ashfield, formerly of Adams, died early yesterday morning at home. Born in Cheshire on July 18, 1925, daughter of Albert and Minnie Curtis Magnant, she attended schools in Cheshire and Adams. She had lived for many years in East Hawley and returned to Adams in 1973, residing on Walling Road. She moved to Ashfield in 2004. Mrs. Yates was employed for several years at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and of its Women's and Altar guilds, chancel choir and Prayer Chain. She was a founder of the former AMEN (A Meeting of Ecumenical Neighbors) food pantry at St. Mark's. She also volunteered with the Red Cross. Her husband, Richard D. Yates, whom she married July 4, 1947, died Dec. 30, 1993. She leaves a son, Richard Yates of Hawley; three daughters, Nancy Cwalinski and Sally Yates, with both of whom she resided, and Elizabeth Celentano of Adams; a brother, Albert Magnant of Ladson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.Another son, Mark Yates, died May 8, 1998. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Requiem Eucharist for Elizabeth Yates, who died May 24, 2005, will be celebrated Saturday, May 28, at 10 in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Adams, by the Rev. Jane Dunning. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Franklin County or Boy Scout Troop 38 in Adams through the funeral home. She also leaves her daughters-in-law, Cheryl of Hawley and Linda of Cheshire; her son-in-law, Louis Celentano; her sister-in-law, Jean; and a close friend, Wolfkeeper of Ashfield.
