Earl Marhenke

Earl Marhenke, 77, of 34 Country Road died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield following a brief illness. Born in Baltimore on May 18, 1928, son of Henry and Ruby Moorehauser Marhenke, he was a 1945 graduate of Wilbur Wright General Vocational School in Baltimore. An Army veteran, he served in the military police during the Korean War. Mr. Marhenke was employed by the town of Dalton in its cemetery department for 18 years, retiring in 1988. He was a security guard at Miss Hall's School from 1989 to 1993. He was a skilled woodworker. His wife, the former Christine Young, whom he married July 10, 1965, died Jan. 12. He leaves three stepsons, David Cooper and Gary Cooper, both of Hinsdale, and Richard Cooper of Cheshire, all of whom he raised. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Earl Marhenke, who died May 25, 2005, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are his daughter-in-law, Sally of Cheshire; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Grace of Dalton, and cousins Jackie Stonnel of Delaware and Sue Gutberlet of Maryland. He was predeceased by a stepbrother, Bill Stone, and a brother, Edward Marhenke. BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226 is in charge of arrangements.
