John Nye

John Nye, 88, formerly of Perrine Avenue, died Monday evening at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since March 2004. Born in Troy, N.Y., on Dec. 4, 1916, son of Fred and Alice Nye, he was a graduate of schools there. An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1941 to 1946. Mr. Nye was employed by the city of Pittsfield for 20 years as a forester, retiring in 1978. Following his retirement, he was a self-employed tree surgeon for 14 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a longtime member of Charles Persip American Legion Post 68 and a Patriots fan. He and his wife, the former Eolie Olivier, were married 58 years. Besides his wife, he leaves his niece and caregiver, Dolly A. Curletti of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE-- John Nye, who died Monday, May 30, also leaves cousins in Troy. There will be no calling hours, and funeral services will be private. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
