John Charles Anderson Jr.

John Charles Anderson Jr., 86, of 90 Dorchester Ave. died yesterday at home after a long illness. Born in Dalton on Jan. 21, 1919, son of John C. Anderson Sr. and Martha Galusha Anderson, he was a 1937 graduate of the former Dalton High School. Mr. Anderson was a maintenance machinist for 41 years at GE, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed fishing, bluegrass music and carpentry. He also was an accomplished woodcarver. He and his wife, the former Gertrude Karpowitz, were married May 30, 1941. She died May 3, 2000. He leaves two sons, Charles J. Anderson of Pittsfield and Alan E. Anderson of Great Barrington; a daughter, Carole F. Vincent of Pittsfield; a sister, Dorothy Potts of Agawam; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- John Charles Anderson Jr., 86, was called safely home on June 10, 2005. Calling hours will be tomorrow, June 12, from 4 to 7. The funeral will be conducted Monday at 9 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles Young. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home. He also is survived by his daughters-in-law, Shirley Anderson and Maureen Anderson; son-in-law, Michael Vincent; grandchildren, Michael Anderson, Teresa Latura and her husband, Richard, Shaun, Kevin and Daniel Vincent, Kellie Vincent, Alan "AJ" Anderson and Benjamin Anderson, and his great-grandchildren, Casondra Latura, Sidni and Emelia Anderson, and Kaylyn Vincent. He will be remembered by all his loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
