Madeline Elizabeth "Sue" North

Madeline Elizabeth "Sue" North, 75, of 25 East St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born at home in Tyringham on Oct. 2, 1929, daughter of James and Dora Grover Harrington, she graduated in 1947 from Pittsfield High School and in 1950 from the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. North was employed for several years by St. Luke's and by the former Foxhollow School for Girls. She also worked for the Lee Visiting Nurse Association, did private duty nursing and was a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a Cub Scout den mother for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, making quilts, doing crossword puzzles and reading. She and her husband, Milton G. North, were married Nov. 18, 1950. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, David B. North of Chesapeake, Va., and Edward North of Lee; two daughters, Susan Marie North-Patterson of Vermilion, Ohio, and Jean Marie North of Lenox; two sisters, Mary Shoemaker of Richmond and Dora Dus of Pittsfield; six brothers, George Harrington, Robert Harrington and William Harrington, all of Pittsfield, Burton Harrington and Thomas Harrington, both of Richmond, and John Harrington of Provo, Utah, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Madeline Elizabeth "Sue" North will be Wednesday, June 15, at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in Richmond Center Cemetery in Richmond. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Melanie and Melissa North of Lee and Danielle, Michael and Taylor Patterson of Vermilion, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Janice North of Virginia; her son's companion, Jeanne Brown of Lee; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Godfroy of Lebanon, N.Y., along with several nieces and nephews.
