Marymartha Blum

Marymartha Blum, 59, of Welcome Street died Friday afternoon, June 10, at her home. Born Nov. 19, 1945, she was the daughter of Paul A. and Martha I. Baum Blum. The family moved to the area in 1954, where they had been spending summers. Ms. Blum attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School with the class of 1963. She attended Berkshire Community College and graduated from the University of Toledo, Ohio. Ms. Blum dedicated her life to children and was a teacher for many years at Dewey and Bryant schools, retiring in 1997. She then worked at Catherine's Chocolates and formerly owned the Monument Mountain Motel. She enjoyed being involved in the community and volunteered at Hancock Shaker Village and HospiceCare in the Berkshires. She was also a trustee at the Mason Library. She had a passion for painting watercolors, crocheting, gardening and going to tag sales. She was also an avid Boggle and word game player. She leaves two sisters, Gabrielle Blum of Great Barrington and Joyce B. DeWallace of Shrewsbury. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family invites everyone to join them for a Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Tuesday, June 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington, with the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Marymartha has requested donations be given to the Mason Library Children's Fund through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves her brother-in-law, Craig DeWallace of Shrewsbury, three nieces, Katherine Merrigan of Canton, Alison Peterson of Holden and Tegan DeWallace of Lowell, and five grandnieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved cat, Marmaduke.
