Mary F. Gurney

Mary F. Gurney, 91, of 121 Castle Hill Road died Thursday at Fairview Commons, where she had resided for a month. Born in Woburn on May 17, 1914, daughter of James and Susan Douglas Gibbons, she was a graduate of Woburn High School. She moved to Great Barrington in the late 1940s. Mrs. Gurney was employed by Wheeler & Taylor Insurance Co. as an insurance underwriter until her retirement. She was a volunteer at the former VNA Shop and was a member of the local AARP. She enjoyed traveling. She leaves two sons, Donald Gurney of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kenneth Gurney of Great Barrington; two daughters, Barbara LeShane of Manchester, N.H., and Carol Mead of Great Barrington, with whom she made her home; a sister, Barbara Blades of Billerica; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Gurney of Great Barrington will be conducted Monday, June 20, at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. A calling hour will be Monday from 10 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Mason Library Book Fund or the Berkshire Humane Society, both through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Betty of Jacksonville and Ann of Great Barrington, and a son-in-law, Thomas. She was predeceased by three brothers, William, Charles and John Gibbons, and a sister, Edith Gibbons. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing a smile with all those around her.
