Dorothy Halperin

Dorothy Halperin, 84, of Atlanta, a former resident of Pittsfield, died yesterday at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta. Her husband, Henry Halperin, was the owner of the former Halperin's Furniture Store. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 12, 1920, daughter of Jacob and Harriet Scher Miller, she was raised in St. Petersburg, Fla., and attended schools there. She moved to the Atlanta area in 2001. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Halperin worked part time as a saleswoman at the furniture store. After her husband's retirement in 1974, they spent the winters in St. Petersburg and summers in Lenox. She was a life member of Hadassah and an active member of Temple Anshe Amunim Sisterhood. She played tennis, golf and bridge, and enjoyed knitting and the arts. She was a volunteer at Tanglewood, Berkshire Theater Festival in Stockbridge and the Menorah Manor Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, Fla. Her husband, to whom she was married 55 years, is deceased. She leaves a daughter, Joan Rabin of Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Keith Halperin of Minneapolis and David Halperin of Traverse City, Mich.; a brother, Irwin Miller of St. Petersburg; a sister, Lillian Berni of Greenwich, Conn., and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Donations in memory of Dorothy Halperin may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 13, at 11:30 at DAVID GROSS FUNERAL HOME in St. Petersburg, Fla. Arrangements are by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta, Ga. She leaves her son-in-law, Dan; daughters-in-law, Karen Grabow of Minneapolis and Carol Schifman of Traverse City; and grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle and Stephanie Rabin, Kale, Joel and Lane Halperin, and Marisa and Blair Halperin.
