Rudolph D. "Rudy" Kaatz

Rudolph D. "Rudy" Kaatz, 96, formerly of East Windsor Road, died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Oct. 23, 1908, son of Rudolf D.H. and Louisa Kohn Kaatz, he was educated there. He served in the Navy. Mr. Kaatz was employed as a production worker for GE in Bridgeport for 39 1/2 years, retiring in 1971. He moved to Peru in 1973. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs and the Peru Grange. He enjoyed time as a ham-radio operator, visiting friends and going to the local coffee shop. His wife, the former Margaret Martin, whom he married April 12, 1934, died in 1962. He leaves a daughter, Lois Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y., three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and his longtime companion, Viva D. Baumann of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by another daughter, Joanne Kaatz in July 2003. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Rudolph D. "Rudy" Kaatz, who died Aug. 30, 2005, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours and burial will take place in Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. He is also survived by his companion, Viva D. Baumann, and her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Baumann of Windsor. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
