Grace May Clifford

Grace May Clifford, 103, died Friday at her home in Berkshire Place on South Street. Born in Pittsfield on January 29, 1902, the daughter of Arthur and Julia Gauthier May. Mrs. Clifford worked at Berkshire County Savings Bank until her marriage to William Hewitt Clifford in 1922. Mr. Clifford was president of Lenox National Bank and operated the former Clifford Company (now Clifford Oil Company) which is still owned by the family. Mr. Clifford died in 1974. She leaves two daughters, Linda C. Rockwell of Portland, Oregon, and Virginia C. Northrup, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Margaret May Davis of Texas; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Mrs. Grace May Clifford will be held October 13 at 11 a.m. for family and residents of Berkshire Place with the Rev. Joel S. Huntington, pastor of South Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at The Church on the Hill Cemetery in Lenox. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Activities Fund at Berkshire Place. She was predeceased by her son, William G. Clifford, who died in 1993; three sisters, Louise May Howard, Edna May Grand-Lienard, and Virginia M. Mace; and three grandchildren.
