Stanley W. Taikowski

Stanley W. Taikowski, 71, of 151 Wahconah St. died Thursday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after being admitted. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 29, 1934, son of Joseph and Mary Miscowski Taikowski, he attended local schools. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Taikowski was employed as a laborer for local contractors, working out of Laborers International Union of North America. He retired in 1997 after 35 years of service. He attended St. Joseph's Church. A fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed horse racing and going to OTB. He leaves three daughters, Sophie Sibbio of Knoxville, Tenn., and Deborah M. Taikowski and Stacey Wnek, both of Pittsfield; a stepson, Jimmy Howe of Northampton; a stepdaughter, Cindy Peterson of Pittsfield; two sisters, Sophie Vallone and Joan Mogul, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard T. Taikowski of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Another son, Anthony Taikowski, died in 2000. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Stanley W. Taikowski died in Pittsfield on Thursday, Oct. 13. The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 8:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, Oct. 17, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. His grandson, Joseph Loftus, was his primary caregiver. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Katrina through the funeral home. Mr. Taikowski enjoyed socializing with his friends at Dunkin' Donuts.
