Russell F. Morey

Russell F. Morey, 89, of 14 Arnold St. died Monday morning at home following a long illness. Born in Adams on Jan. 5, 1916, son of William and Eva Gravel Morey, he attended the former Adams High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Dixie and Compton destroyers in the Pacific theater. He was discharged with the rank of electrician's mate first class. Mr. Morey was employed by GE in Pittsfield for 25 years, retiring in 1978. Earlier, he had worked at the Jones Division. He was a communicant of the Catholic Parishes of Adams and attended St. Thomas' Church. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 160, where he was an adjutant for several years. He enjoyed gardening at his home and at the church. He also enjoyed painting with oils. He and his wife, the former Doris Green, were married Jan. 15, 1938 at St. Francis DeSales Church in Bennington, Vt. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Russell G. Morey of North New Portland, Maine, William A. Morey of Pittsfield and Jonathan A. Morey of Adams; a sister, June Les of Cheshire; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several step-grandchildren. Another son, Robert R. "Biff" Morey, died in 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the life of Russell F. Morey on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church. A private visitation period for family only will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. Following cremation, inurnment will be in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery at a time to be announced. The family suggests memorial donations to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, P.O. Box 231, Adams, MA 01220.
