Sarah "Sally Jo" Restivo

Sarah "Sally Jo" Restivo, 59, of 203 Narragansett Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a 2 1/2-year battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 17, 1946, daughter of the late Laurence O. Brady Sr. and Katherine Truden Brady, she attended Pittsfield Catholic schools and was a 1964 graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown. She attended Berkshire Community College, Northeastern University in Boston, the University of Connecticut, Westfield State College and Cambridge College and graduated cum laude from Southern Vermont College in May 2000. She earned several degrees in psychology and social work and certifications in writing. While in high school, she was an active member of the Girl Scouts, the ski team and the Latin Club. In 1971, Mrs. Restivo was named the first woman city editor of the Meriden (Conn.) Journal. She also was a former police reporter at the Waterbury Republican-American, night city editor of the Hartford Courant, executive editor of the New Haven Register and managing editor of the Middletown Press, all in Connecticut. In 1991, she moved back to Lanesborough and started her own professional writing service, Right for You. She was included in the 1977-78 edition of Who's Who of American Women. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Berkshire Business and Professional Women and editor of its newsletter. She enjoyed skiing, water sports and craftwork. She and her husband, Edward F. Restivo, were married May 17, 1969, at St. Charles' Church. Besides her husband, she leaves twin daughters, Emily B. Restivo of Brookline and Kathryn A. Restivo of Lanesborough; a son, Seth E. Restivo of Lee, and a brother, Laurence O. Brady Jr. of Hartford, Tenn. Another daughter, Sarinah Restivo, died in 1974. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sarah "Sally Jo" Restivo, who died Dec. 17, 2005, will be Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be todayfrom 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Berkshire Hematology and Oncology in care of the funeral home. She accomplished many great things in her lifetime. She was well-known for being a compassionate mother, wife, friend, boss, co-worker and counselor. Though she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched, her life will be celebrated by those who knew and loved her.
