Irene F. Leitch

Irene Frances Leitch, 82, of 39 Morningside Ave. died Sunday afternoon at Williamstown Commons. Born in West Warren on Aug. 20, 1918, daughter of Ladislaw and Alexandria Ziak Lemanski, she moved to Adams as a child and attended local schools. Mrs. Leitch was employed by the former Waverly Fabrics for several years, retiring 25 years ago. Before that, she worked at the former Signet Corp. and at GE during World War II. She was the first female drum majorette for the former Polish National Alliance Drum Corps in Adams during the 1930s and had led many area and out-of-state parades. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. Her husband, Arthur L. Leitch Jr., whom she married June 16, 1945, died in July 1984. She leaves a daughter, Carol A. Alibozek of Adams; two sons, John A. Leitch of Adams and William J. Leitch of Olive Branch, Miss.; a sister, Blanche Garofano of Adams; two brothers, Edward and Lawrence Lemanski, both of Adams; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. She was predeceased by two brothers, William Lemanski, who was killed in World War II, and Edmond Lemanski; and three sisters, Sophie Byrd, Nora Bacon and Stephanie Lemanski.
