Michael J. Kustra

Michael J. Kustra, 58, formerly of Anthony Street, Adams, and a resident of The Commons of North Adams on Franklin Street died Monday morning in The Commons after a lengthy illness. Born March 21, 1947 in Adams, son of the late Stanley M. and the late Dorothy Macksey Kustra, he attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams Memorial High School in 1965. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1969. Mr. Kustra was employed with his father in the operation of Mike's Bakery and entered the Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was a corpsman attached to a Marine unit in Vietnam. He was disabled during his service and received an honorable discharge in 1970. Mr. Kustra had been employed as a construction worker at the Bear Mountain Hydroelectric Plant in Vermont for some years before he was hospitalized because of service-connected injuries. Prior to his disabilities, he was a member of the Catholic Parishes of Adams, attending St. Thomas Aquinas Church. He leaves two sisters; Joanne Filiault of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Margaret Maroni, RN, of Readsboro, Vt.; five nieces and nephews, and several cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial in celebration of the life of Michael J. Kustra, who died Jan. 2, 2006, will be offered on Saturday at 1:30 at St. Thomas' Church. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. The family suggests memorial donations to the Adams Ambulance Fund at 186 Columbia St., Adams, MA 01220, or through the funeral home, 6 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220.
