Robert A. Martin Sr.

Robert A. Martin Sr., 62, of 152 North Summer St. died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield after a long illness. Born in North Adams on Jan. 6, 1943, son of the late William N. and Marian Martin Martin, he attended schools there. Mr. Martin was employed by the former Butler Wholesale Co. for several years before moving to Worcester, where he worked for the Salvation Army for 10 years. He returned to North Adams in 1992 and moved to Adams in 2000. His wife, the former Catherine Kern, whom he married May 14, 1966, died May 11, 1971. He leaves four sons, Anthony Martin of Tennessee, Nicholas Martin of North Adams, and David Martin and Robert A. Martin Jr., both of Adams; a daughter, Elizabeth Cruz of Ware; two brothers, William Martin of North Adams and Arnold Martin of the town of Florida; a sister, Ethel Maynard of Worcester; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Robert A. Martin Sr., who died Jan. 5, 2006, will be conducted Monday, Jan. 9, at 11 at TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 9 until the time of the service. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220. He was predeceased by five brothers, Leroy, Dwight, James and Edward Martin, and George Valois Sr. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
