George L. Quinn Jr.

George L. Quinn Jr., 79, of Agawam, formerly of North Adams, died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in North Adams on Jan. 11, 1926, son of George L. Quinn Sr. and Ethel Drillio Quinn, he moved to Agawam in 1986. Mr. Quinn served in the Navy during World War II and attained the rank of signalman third class. He received several campaign medals. He owned Springfield Paint Inc. on St. James Avenue in East Springfield for more than 25 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cards and tennis, and was a sports fan. He leaves his companion of 27 years, Delores C. Devine Ennis of West Springfield; a son, George L. Quinn III of Springfield; four daughters, Ellen Q. Jones of Madison, Va., Diana Quinn of Roanoke, Va., Laura Quinn of Dalton and Elise K. Pelletier of Bloomfield, Conn.; two sisters, Betty Chilson of North Adams and Joan Tucker of Pittsfield; a brother, James Quinn of Northampton; his former wife, Marion S. Saabye Lockhart of South Yarmouth, and 13 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George L. Quinn Jr., who died Jan. 9, 2006, will be Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at 8:30 a.m. from ST. PIERRE-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, at the corner of Chestnut Street (near Baystate Medical Center) in Springfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10 in Our Lady of Hope Church, Armory Street, Springfield. His entombment will follow the Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Michael Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield. His family will receive friends at the funeral home in Chapin Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, from 4 to 8. For those who prefer to make a memorial donation, they may be made in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. He also leaves sons-in-law, Cleveland Jones of Madison, Va., Richard J. O'Brien of Dalton and Michael D. Liona of Bloomfield, Conn.; 13 cherished grandchildren, George L. Quinn IV, Mark Quinn, Sam Quinn-Omer, Joseph Quinn-Omer, John Jones, Adam Jones, Kathryn Jones, Benjamin Quinn, Matthew O'Brien, Marion O'Brien, William O'Brien, Jacob Liona and Lucas Liona; a brother-in-law, Richard Tucker of Pittsfield, and his many dear nephews and nieces.
